About
Art station Dubulti

For a decade, since 2015, Art Station Dubulti has redefined how contemporary art can inhabit and activate public infrastructure. It is a unique hybrid of functioning railway infrastructure and contemporary art space in Jūrmala, Latvia. This overlap has shaped a layered and inclusive cultural experience, integrating professionally curated contemporary art into daily life for a broader public.

It seems, that Art Station Dubulti is Europe’s only professional exhibition venue in a functioning railway station. Opened in 2015, it keeps adding a new dimension to an iconic building constructed in the Socialist Modernist style by St.Petersburg’s architect Igor Javein in 1977. Art Station Dubulti was founded and continues to be run by art critic and curator Inga Šteimane. She initiated a unique collaboration between the owner of the real estate State Joint Stock Company Latvian Railways, the property manager Jurmala State City Municipality, and the NGO, the program creator Art Station Dubulti.

Established in 2015, Art station Dubulti is a testament to innovative collaboration between transportation, culture, and public administration. Our mission is to create an accessible platform where art engages, inspires, and connects with a diverse audience.

Originally built in 1977 by Soviet architect Igor Javein, the station’s distinctive wave-like design evokes the rolling sea, a nod to Jurmala’s coastal heritage. Following a full renovation in 2015, the station was transformed into a professionally managed art gallery while retaining its role as a bustling railway hub, just 40 minutes from Riga.

Rather than being repurposed from one function into another, the Dubulti station has evolved into a hybrid environment where passengers and gallery visitors coexist.

Our exhibitions disclose more intimate and unexplored side of the artist. The dynamics and challenges of contexts and discourses are always at the center of our gaze. We actively support the production of new works. The exhibition program is held with the budgetary support of Jūrmala City Council and the State Culture Capital Foundation.

Supported by the Jūrmala City Council, the State Culture Capital Foundation, and various cultural partners, we are proud to contribute to Jūrmala’s rich cultural landscape. Whether you arrive by train, on foot, or simply pass by, we invite you to experience the unique synergy of art and motion at Art station Dubulti.
